freerangestock.com – provide quality stock photos for commercial and non-commercial use. For free.
Freerange Stock was formed with the goal to provide quality stock photos for commercial and non-commercial use. For free. We feel that free stock photos can be good photos, and we want to help you succeed. Freerange is an advertising revenue supported photographic community – participatng photographers get paid when users click on the ads that appear next to their submissions.
Images on the site are either shot by Freerange Stock, drawn from Freerange archives, or contributed by a talented community of photographers. We feel that the images want to be seen and good photos should be available to everyone – so we give the collections away with the hope that they will be useful and be enjoyed.

About the Images
Our photos either come directly from our in-house photographers and archives or they are contributed by a growing community of creative and talented photographers.
Images provided directly (in-house) by Freerange Stock originate one of two ways. They are either digitally photographed on Canon DSLR cameras or they are a high resolution (4000 dpi) Nikon scan of an original 35mm slide.
Once the image is acquired, the photo is sharpened, color corrected, cropped and keyworded. Some images are manipulated in Photoshop to make them more effective. Then the original is archived and a version is optimized and output, then posted on the live site. We post images that are at least 2400×1600, generally larger.
We put a lot of work into each image – we feel it’s worth it to make the images as appealing as possible. Thousands of images don’t make the cut – this makes the collection smaller, but more useful.
Our contributing photographers gather and create images in a number of similar ways.
This obvious question, then, is, “Why are some of your photos not so great?” Maybe you have not asked that question – but it’s worth answering. Photos that make it into the collections are either artistically and photographically interesting, or they provide photographic documentation of an item or event. So, every photo of a rock on the site may not be great art, but if you need a basic image of a rock for your Photoshop composite, we hope we can help.
